There are many reasons why a nonsurgical facelift is superior to facelift surgery. But perhaps the most striking difference becomes clear when you look at the recovery period. The recovery period for a surgical facelift is long, restrictive, and painful. It also takes a long time for your final results to become visible.
Downtime is the time that you can’t do anything but focus on recovery. You can’t go to work or engage in other normal activities with a few exceptions. You spend most of your time sitting and resting, perhaps reading or watching TV.
With a surgical facelift, this period is at least three to five days. Many doctors recommend a full two weeks’ rest before returning to work. This downtime is so extreme that even plastic surgeons are avoiding facelifts.
With a nonsurgical facelift, there is no downtime. You can return to work right after your procedure.
During your recovery from a surgical facelift, you have many restrictions on your activities. You have to stay out of the sun for at least four weeks. You can’t take a bath or go swimming for the same length of time. And over that four weeks, you also can’t engage in any strenuous physical activities, including exercise and sex.
Failure to adhere to these restrictions will put you at serious risk for complications from your facelift, some of which may be dangerous, and others that can permanently damage your results.
But with a nonsurgical facelift, there are essentially no restrictions. Your teeth may be tender on the day of the procedure so you may opt for a soft diet. Otherwise, there’s nothing you can’t do.
With a surgical facelift, you have literally had much of your face cut off and repositioned. Of course it’s going to be accompanied by significant pain. Typically, people are prescribed strong pain relievers for the first few days after surgery, then can move to specific over-the-counter medications, which many people feel are inadequate.
But with a nonsurgical facelift, you’ll experience much less discomfort. You may feel some minor discomfort for a day or two, typically controllable with over-the-counter pain relievers.
With a nonsurgical facelift, you will see your results as soon as the procedure is complete. Once your final restorations are placed, the results are complete.
But with a surgical facelift, results are said to develop much more slowly. It may take months for you to know what your final results are going to be. In some cases, results may continue to evolve for up to a year.
