Face Shape, Facial Aging, & FOY ® Dentures

portrait of a senior woman

Not everyone ages at the same rate or in the same way. No matter your true age, there are many factors that will determine your apparent age, including your face shape. And because of the way tooth loss can transform your face shape, it can contribute to your facial aging. Fortunately, FOY ® Dentures can help you maintain your face shape and combat facial aging.

Oval Face Aging

An oval face is one whose forehead and chin are roughly the same width. Oval faces are also about one and a half times as long as they are wide.

One of the biggest concerns that oval faces encounter as they age is hollowing of the cheeks. This is a natural consequence in part because of the natural effects of gravity on the fat and other tissues in the cheeks. But tooth loss can dramatically accelerate it. And with the collapse of support in the lower face, you may even lose your oval face proportions, changing into a more rounded face.

And most dentures don’t do a good job of replacing the lost support. However, FOY ® Dentures can restore the proper volume to your cheeks to help you maintain your attractive oval face proportions.

Round Faces

Round faces are about as wide at the top and bottom and aren’t longer than they are wide. This face shape normally stores significant fat in the cheeks, so it’s not as significant a concern if some of the fat is lost with aging. But the sinking fat pads can be a major problem, because they contribute to facial folds and wrinkles around the mouth, especially the infamous nasolabial folds.

The collapse of support in the mouth area can accentuate this problem, causing the mouth to fold inward, leading to more significant wrinkling around the mouth. But with FOY ® Dentures, we can restore that support. Although we can’t entirely stop the sagging of cheeks, the impact will be much less because the face proportion is maintained.

Heart Shaped Faces

The heart shaped face has a wide forehead and a narrow chin. This pleasing proportion also helps insulate women and men against developing jowls and losing definition in the chin line.

However, the proportion can be lost along with the teeth.

Sometimes, though, the opposite problem arises. With the loss of teeth and the reliance on dentures, the narrowness of the chin can be accentuated, leading to witch’s chin. FOY ® Dentures can help maintain facial structure to prevent the development of witch’s chin.

Rectangle Faces

Rectangle faces have a broader chin than the other face shapes. This puts them at the highest risk for jowling and turkey neck, as the well-developed fat and skin from the face can skin downward, affecting the definition of the chin and neck.

With FOY ® Dentures, though, we can maintain the definition of your chin and neck, which can help you look significantly younger.

No Matter Your Face Shape, FOY ® Dentures Can Help

If you are unhappy with the way your face has been aging because your dentures haven’t restored your facial proportions, FOY ® Dentures can help.

And it’s important to remember that you may experience these aging effects even if your natural teeth are just worn. That’s why a nonsurgical facelift can help you maintain your youthful appearance.
